Android home-screen widgets

Five widgets for your Android home screen — account balance, add-transaction shortcut, mini calendar, reminders list, and spend summary — refreshed as your data changes.

Bluecoins ships five widgets for your Android home screen, so your money is visible and one tap away without opening the app. Widgets are added the normal Android way — long-press your home screen, add a Bluecoins widget, and pick the option you want.

The five widgets

  • Account balance — shows the balance of a single account. When you add this widget, Android opens a small configuration screen where you pick which account it displays.
  • Add transaction — a shortcut that deep-links straight into the transaction entry form, ready for a new expense, income, or transfer.
  • Calendar — a mini calendar with transaction count indicators on the days, so you can see at a glance how busy a day was.
  • Reminders list — a scrollable list of your upcoming reminders, so due bills are visible from the home screen.
  • Spend summary — a current-period summary of income, expense, and balance (a v13 addition).

Staying current

Widgets do not sit stale: when your data changes, the app triggers a refresh for all widget types, so the balance widget and the spend summary track your latest transactions. The reminders list reflects your upcoming schedule, and the calendar widget updates its day indicators as entries are added or edited.

Privacy on the home screen

Because a widget puts financial numbers on your home screen, Bluecoins ties widgets into its security options: you can require the app PIN before widgets are shown, alongside the other optional lock points. See the app’s security settings for the exact toggles.

Dashboard versus widgets

The widgets are the home-screen surface. Inside the app, the home screen has its own configurable dashboard of cards and tabs — see the dashboard guide for the in-app side. Both read the same data: the account-balance widget and the dashboard’s account card show the same balance, from the same running-balance calculation.
